Preadmission Screening and Resident Review, or PASRR, is a federally mandated program that ensures individuals with mental illness or intellectual, developmental disabilities and mental health challenges receive the right care in the most appropriate environment. This process helps determine whether someone seeking admission to a Medicaid-certified nursing facility truly needs that level of care, or if they can live successfully in the community with the right support in place.

Why PASRR Matters

How the PASRR Process Works
Every person seeking admission to a Medicaid-certified nursing facility must go through a PASRR evaluation. This includes three core steps:
Identification – Screening to determine if the individual may have mental illness, IDD, or both.
Placement Determination – Assessing whether the person’s needs can be met in the community or require nursing facility care.
Service Recommendations – Outlining the specific supports and interventions the person should receive, no matter where they live.
Our team works closely with the individual, their family or guardian, healthcare providers, and other members of their support network throughout this process. We ensure evaluations are thorough, accurate, and conducted with respect and sensitivity.
